His father, Burton L. Funk, is a Scott county pioneer, and was born in the Merritt neighborhood, April 5, 1837. In the early 50's he was married to Martha A. Sullens, who was a native of Morgan county. The young man was educated in the country schools of Scott county and devoted his time to farming. After he became a young man he taught school one term at Victory school house, in Morgan county.
December 17, 1890, Mr. Funk was married to Miss Daisy D. Sappington, daughter of J. J. and Ella (Larkin) Sappington. Mr. Sappington was born November 27, 1836, and Mrs. Sappington was born December 10, 1842. One child, Chesney S., has been born to Mr. and Mrs. Funk.

He was appointed deputy county clerk last December and is now discharging the duties of that position. Religiously, he is a Methodist, and in a civic way is a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He is one of the bright young men of the county and has before him a future of great promise. His parents are yet living.
