W. E. GORDON.

This gentleman is a native of Morgan county and was born near Lynnville, June 22, 1850. When he was but a child his parents moved to Scott county and he has spent the days of his life here. It is the same old story of struggle and trial, worry and bother in getting along at school - and with the boys and girls - and it forms an important chapter in the life history of everyone. Nevertheless Mr. Gordon received his education and grew to manhood. He worked upon the farm; did his work well, and was satisfied.

In 1872, March 3, he was married to Miss Maria E. Anderton, daughter of George Anderton, who at present makes his home with Mr. Gordon. Nine children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon. Those living are: Mrs. Lucy C. Jewsbury, wife of Fred Jewsbury, who resides near Markham, Morgan county; George; Mrs. Sallie E. Heaton, wife of John Heaton, who resides near Lynnville, Morgan county; Mrs. Edith Ransom, wife of E. A. Ransom, who resides in Jacksonville; Allen O., Gertrude M., Bertha B., Mary E. and Edwin A. One son, Walter H., died when he was two years old.

Mr. Gordon is one of the welltodo farmers of Scott county and has lived where he now does, two miles east of Merritt, for the past fifteen years. He has been quite successful, owns a good farm and has sufficient of this world's goods to enable him to take life easy and comfortable in old age.
