SOLOMON HAINSFURTHER

"Sol" Hainsfurther, as he is known by nearly everybody in the county, is a native of Scott county, and was born at Winchester, October 20, 1869. He is a son of Moses and Harriet (Strauss) Hainsfurther. His father was born in Ichenhausen, Germany, March 3, 1823, and came to this country in 1848, and to Winchester in 1857. In 1855 he was married to Harriet Strauss and to them nine children have been born, four girls and one boy now living. Sol was educated in the Winchester schools and at St. Louis. After he came out of school he worked for three years at Osage, Iowa, and in 1889 returned to Winchester and entered the employ of M. & S. Hainsfurther, taking charge of the shoe department. When the Hainsfurther Mercantile Company was organized in 1895, he was a member of that corporation and remained there until that company went out of business in 1901, at which time he purchased the shoe stock of the Hainsfurther company and moved it to the building he now occupies, and today has one of the most neatly appointed and best arranged shoe stores to be found in this section of Illinois. Mr. Hainsfurther is thoroughly conversant with his business and is giving it his undivided attention.

Solomon Hainsfurther and Miss Victoria Sachen, daughter of Albert and Julia Sachen, were married at Chicago, April 10, 1895. Mrs. Hainsfurther was born in New York City, December 3, 1869. They have two children, (twins) Herbert and Beatrice. Mr. Hainsfurther is a Mason, an Odd Fellow, a K. of P., a Woodman, a Rebekah and a D. O. K. K. His church membership is with the synagogue at Quincy. Though but a young man Sol Hainsfurther has proven himself and readily takes rank with the responsible, progressive business men of the county.
