Grandparents make their home and spend the days of their lives in Scott county; their sons and daughters after them find it a congenial clime and round out the cycle of their years here, and their children following in their ways take up their abode and contribute their mite towards the advancement, the wealth and the prosperity of the county. Of such is the subject of this sketch, Charles T. Hamilton. He is a son of James O. and Lucy J. (Taylor) Hamilton. He is one in a family of eleven children and was born at Winchester, Illinois, May 6, 1866. His father, James O. Hamilton, was a native of Scott county, and was born at Winchester, February 26, 1837. His mother, Lucy J. Taylor, was a native of Pike county, and was born at Barry, October 4, 1836. They were married, December 27, 1855.
Charles T. Hamilton was educated in the Winchester public schools, and was married at Argenta, Illinois, November 1, 1893, to Miss Ola J. Benford, daughter of John T. and Rachel E. (Watrons) Benford. Mrs. Hamilton was born May 27, 1854, and is a native of Ohio. They are the parents of two children - Cecil Edwin Hamilton and Bessie Lucile Hamilton.
For several years Mr. Hamilton was in business at Winchester and was the junior member in the drug firm of White & Hamilton, and later of Campbell & Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton retired from the business in the latter 90's. Charles Hamilton is a jolly good fellow and is well known and well liked in Winchester and throughout Scott County.
