Way back yonder in Roan county, in Eastern Tennessee, or "Tennesy" as the natives call it. Martin Hester was born October 13, 1833. When he was about one year old his parents came to Illinois and settled in Morgan county. Mr. Hester was reared in that county and received his education there. He applied himself to the study of mathematics with a strong leaning towards civil engineering. He followed various avocations in Morgan county, turning an "honest penny" whenever and wherever he could. He had a large circle of friends in his home community and was considered an enterprising and industrious young man. February 9, 1865, he was married to Miss Nancy King, daughter of John R. King of Scott county. In 1874 he moved to Scott county and settled at Alsey. He is at present justice of the peace there. He knows all the "ins" and "outs" of that part of the county and at all times can be depended upon to furnish you any desired information. Mr. Hester is a democrat in politics and takes a lively interest in political campaigns. He is a familiar figure about Alsey and ever has a good word to say in its behalf.
