Over in the Hawkeye state (Iowa), down in Jasper county, on the 6th day of March, 1865, a son was born to Thomas A. and Rebecca Lashmet. They named him Nicholas T. When he came to be six years of age his parents moved to Illinois and settled near Jacksonville, Morgan county. Fifteen years they lived there and then moved over into Scott county, about five miles southeast of Winchester, where they remained seven years and moved to Manchester. That village is now their home. Everybody in this county knows the young man by the name of "Nick" and when he got to be a man - twenty-one years old - he started in business for himself and opened a meat market at Murrayville, Morgan county. For about a year and a half he chopped steak and sawed bones for those people and then sold out and went to Jacksonville. For about two years he was engaged in the same business in Jacksonville, and he then drifted over into Scott county and settled at Winchester.
After locating in Winchester Mr. Lashmet entered into partnership in the meat business with Thos. J. Spears and they did business in the Hartung building. They were together one year when Mr. Spears retired and Mr. Lashmet moved the market to the building he now occupies. In addition to dealing in fresh and cured meats of every description he also handles ice.
April 20, 1887, at Jacksonville, Illinois, occurred the marriage of Mr. Lashmet and Miss Bee Coffee. They have five children, two boys and three girls. They are: Nellie, Lillian, Florence, Harry and Earl. Mr. Lashmet is an energetic gentleman, owns nice residence property and is fully deserving of the success with which he has met in his journey through life.
