CHARLES SMITHSON

Upon a farm about five miles northwest of Winchester, in 14-13, lives the subject of this sketch, Charles Smithson. He is a native of Scott county and was born October 16, 1859. He was reared upon a farm and was given such educational advantages as were afforded at the country schools of that day. He applied himself, however, and the lessons there learned, coupled with those of experience gained in latter years, have been of lasting benefit to him. October 28, 1880, he was married to Miss Laura F. Campbell, daughter of the late William L. Campbell. Mrs. Smithson is also a native of Scott county, having been born and reared here. To Mr. and Mrs. Smithson have been born six children, four sons and two daughters. The sons are: Clyde O., Orvill C., Ivan L. and Everette. The daughters are: Percie Lee and Lela. Mr.

Smithson commenced for himself in the world as a poor man. He was blessed with a wonderful courage and a whole lot of the "I will" spirit. Early and late he has toiled, using diligence and good judgment in all things and as a reward for his labor today owns 140 acres of very fertile land. He is a good neighbor, and a kind friend, and is a component element in Scott county's great family of respected and honored citizens.
