That part of Scott county adjacent to Bluffs has produced some mighty good men, and John B. Thompson is not an exception. He is a son of John and Sarah (Saum) Thompson, and was born near Bluffs, September 16, 1864. His father was a native of Bingham, England, was born in 1836, and came with his parents, settling near Bluffs, the same year. His mother, Sarah (Saum) Thompson was born in Pennsylvania, and was married to John Thompson, September 16, 1857. Five children were born to the - three sons and two daughters.
John B. Thompson had much the same experience as other country lads - he went to school and worked about the farm. He has been a very active democrat and in 1895 was elected to the office of assessor and treasurer of Scott county, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of William Condit, and served until 1898, and he was then elected to the office of clerk of the county court and held that office until the close of the term, November 30, 1902. Since that time he has been doing a little deputy work.
November 27, 1887, John B. Thompson and Miss Mattie Trabue were married. She is a daughter of Charles and Nancy (Sidles) Trabue, and was born in Bourbon county, Kentucky. Two children have blessed the union of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson. Their names are Roy and Ina, and they are as bright as they can be.
Mr. Thompson is a member of the K. of P, and K. of K. lodges , and is a prominent and active worker. He is a young man of considerable energy and the years of his life have been devoted to the principles of honesty and gentility, and to a careful and personal supervision of whatever duty he has been discharging.
