ISAIAH WALKER

For years, and years, and years, Isaiah Walker has lived in Scott county. He was born near Winchester, Clark county, Kentucky, June 8, 1835. He is the youngest child in a family of eleven, born to James and Susanna (Darnell) Walker. His parents were natives of Kentucky and his father was a soldier in the war of 1812. In 1837 the family came to Illinois and settled in Morgan county, near Lynnville, where they remained for a couple of years and then moved to a farm about six miles northwest of Winchester, and in that neighborhood Mr. and Mrs. Walker passed their remaining days on earth. James Walker died in the early 50's and Susannah Walker died in 1870.

Isaiah Walker, was not the recipient of a very extensive education. He went to school a few months each winter from the time he was six until he was thirteen years of age and then he had to go to work. Shortly after his father's death, Isaiah went to Clinton county, Missouri, stopping near Plattsburg, where he engaged in farming. He remained there a couple of years, closed out and rode a pony back to Illinois. he came to Scott county and the old neighborhood.

June 8, 1856, he was married to Miss Permelia A. Holloway, daughter of George M. and Mary E. (New) Holloway. Mrs. Walker was born January 12, 1843. She was a native of Scott county and rounded out the cycle of her life here. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were the parents of nine children, viz: Charles William, George, Wealthia, Ollie, Mary, John (killed by lightning when he was seventeen years of age), Ora Albert (who died when an infant), Elmer F. and Ernest. The children are all married and with the exception of Mary, who lives at Scottsville, Macoupin county, all live in Scott county. Mrs. Walker died, October 2, 1898.

During the years of his life Isaiah Walker has been a democrat and an honest man. He has treated his neighbor as he desired his neighbor to treat him. He has worked hard; has a 207 acre farm, and is at present enjoying life as it is fit and proper he should.
