This gentleman is one of the well known citizens of Winchester, and has spent his entire life in that city. He is a son of the late D. B. and Lucy R. (Devore) Watt, and was born at Winchester, May 14, 1852. He was educated in the public schools, and as a young man clerked in his father's store, and late owned an interest in the business.
February 4, 1877, Mr. Watt was married to Miss Hadia V. Newman, daughter of Jesse T. and Esther J. (Gillham) Newman. Mrs. Watt was born on what is now known as the Dewell farm, eight miles southeast of Jacksonville, Morgan county, Illinois, December 17, 1854. Mr. and Mrs. Watt have been the parents of six children. Two died in infancy and the living are: Jesse David, Lucy DeVore, Margaret Newman and Harry Campbell. Mr. Watt has been a member af Pioneer Lodge, No. 70, I .O. O. F., for over twenty years. The Watt family worship at the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Watt is an active republican, but has never held office. He is simply one of the good citizens of Scott county and is doing what he can to make his home county the best spot of ground in the round, round world.
