CLASS OF 1944 - Members of the Metropolis Community High School class of 1944
met for their 35th year class reunion on June 30. Twenty-seven members and
guests had a steak dinner at The Fortress at 6:30 p.m. after which the group
assembled at Tuxedo Junction for visitation and reminiscing. Master of ceremonies
Charles Stoker read greatings and letters from class members unable to attend.
Each member present gave a short review of their family and happenings since the
last reunion five years ago. Prizes were awarded to the following: class member
traveling the farthest distance - Harriet (Evers) Weaver, who came from Paraguay,
South Africa; class member married the longest to the same person - Helen
(Hausman) Eckenberg, married 34 years; class member having the most children -
Harriet Weaver with six children; class member with the most grandchildren -
Doris Jean (Pansing) Peliwo, four grandchildren; and class member with the youngest
grandchild - Karl Kotter, who has a grandchild only a few months old. A program
booklet containing the names and addresses of all class members was given to all
present and the remainder of the evening was spent visiting and dancing to the
music of the George Doerner Orchestra. Members are, from left: Esther (Pansing)
