Amos Harmon, Forreston, Illinois May 7, 1943--Amos Harman, 97, passed away about 4:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of his
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dolly Harmon, near Haldane. He was born Oct 16, 1845, in Lincoln Township, Ogle County, where he spent his entire
lifetime. On Aug. 23, 1874, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Cross, of Haldane, who died Sept. 25, 1914. A son died July 5, 1934. He leaves his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dolly Harmon; four grandsons, Staff Sergeant Forrest Harmon, of Malden, Mo; Donald Harmon, stationed in north Africa; Russell, at home, Howard of Haldane; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Union Haldane Church. Rev. Wayne Gerdes will officiate and burial will be made in the Haldane Cemetery.

Well Known Haldane Man Is Called at Age of 97 Years, Amos Harmon, an uncle of Mrs. Jennie Newcomer and Grant Harmon of Mount Morris died on Thursday of last week at the home of his daughter in law near Haldane at the age of 97 years. Born in Lincoln Township, October 16, 1845, he was the youngest of the 11 children of John and Nancy Harmon, who came to Illinois in 1839 from Sharpsburg, Md. As a young man he learned the carpenter trade with his brother in law, Isaiah Speaker and some years later turned to farming. Aug 23, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Cross of Haldane, who died Sept 25 1914. One son, Howard was born to this union, his death occurring July 5, 1934. Following the passing of his wife, Mr. Harmon resided with his son's family. Mr. Harmon, a member of the United Brethren Church from early manhood, enjoyed good health until last January. Surviving are his daughter in law, Mrs. Dolly Harmon, four grandsons, Stg. Forrest, Malden, MO, Donald, now stationed in North Africa, Russell, at home and Howard, residing near Haldane, three grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Final rites were held Sunday afternoon at the Haldane church, Rev. Wayne Gerdes officiating. Burial was made in the Haldane Cemetery.
