Francis G. Jones, deceased, a pioneer of Ogle County of 1839, was born in the North of Ireland, Oct., 28, 1816, and was the son of John F. Jones. He emigrated to America in 1833, coming alone and without friends, at the age of 17 years. He amde his home in Toronto, Canada, till 1839, when he came to Ogle County and located in Buffalo Township. He entered 200 acres of Goverment land, and by subsequent purchase increased his possessions to 460 acres. Mr. Jones was married in Buffalo Township, April 21, 1842, to Miss Louisa Slater, daughter of Benjamin and Maria (Johnson) Slater. Mrs. Jones was born April 22, 1822 near Toronto, Canada, and came to Ogle County in 1839. Eight children have been born to them, five sons and three daughters: MARIA E., born March 8, 1843, resides with her mother, in Buffalo Township; GEORGE E., born Dec. 4, 1844, resides with his mother on the home farm; JOSEPH B., born June 17, 1846, died July 23, 1862; LYDIA F., born Oct. 30, 1847, resides at home; HENRY W., born May 28, 1851, married Miss Hattie Stover, and they live in Iowa; MARY C., born March 18, 1854, resides at home; BENJAMIN F., born Nov. 2, 1859, lives in Iowa; JOHN C., born Oct. 21, 1865, is living at home. Mr. Jones was a successful farmer, and by industry and good management accumulated a valuable property. His death occurred July 17, 1881. His wife survives him and, with several of her children, resides on the farm, situated on Section 5, in the northern part of Buffalo Township. Mrs. Jones and daughters are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Jones in politics is a stanch Republican.
