James Lockwood was born October 16, 1822, in Erie Co., Ohio, and died at Byron, Ogle County, Ill., June 5, 1886, aged 63 years, 7 days (sic) and 19 days.

He immigrated to Illinois in 1852 and settled on a farm in Rockvale Township, where he lived and enjoyed the friendship of the neighborhood until three years ago, when on account of failing health he left the farm, and purchased a residence in the village of Byron.

He was a constant attendant at the M. E. Church but did not become a member.

During his sickness he was much exercised on the subject of religion, and some few months ago, he fully gave himself to God through Christ, receiving a bright evidence of his pardon and acceptance. He continued in this hope until death.

His sickness was long and painful, from an affection of the kidneys and also a cancer.

Mr. Lockwood leaves a wife and two children, son and daughter, to mourn their loss. His funeral was largely attended. He was buried by Masonic rites.

About four weeks ago it was apparent that his end was near and his son William, was immediately sent for, and came, remaining here until after the funeral. J. H. T.
