MRS. CHARLES COON (NELLIE) DIES FOLLOWING BRIEF ILLNESS

In the brief span of seven weeks, one of the most well known pioneer couples of this city, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coon, have "crossed the bar." Spared to a ripe old age, this couple traveled down the highway of life together, happy with each other and happy that their only daughter and husband could share their home. The latch string was always out and all found their fireside a place of joy and pleasure. Year by year the steps of the couple grew more feeble and then came the opportunity for the daughter and husband to give them the love and care which was such a comfort to them in their declining years.

After the death of her husband, August 22nd, Mrs. Coon seemed to lose interest in the affairs of life and began to fail rapidly until the end came near the midnight hour Monday night, lacking an hour of seven weeks after the death of her beloved husband.

Nellie Kelley was born in Rockvale Township, Ogle County, July 31, 1849. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Kelley. She was married at Byron to Charles Coon November 14, 1870, and in 1920 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. One daughter was born to this union, Florence, Mrs. A. M. Peterson, who with her husband resided in the home and tenderly cared for them in their declining years. The deceased is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles March of Dixon. The funeral service was held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Zeigler conducting the services. Interment took place in the family lot at Lawnridge.
