Himes Cemetery is located in Section 7 of Goshen Township. From the photograph at the right, you might see that the cemetery has a new sign, but it is greatly overgrown. There are a few standing monuments that can be seen above the vegetation, but most are completely hidden. The Cemetery Committee in Lafayette has responded positively to our requests to have the cemetery cleaned up, and they plan to actively pursue this cleanup during the spring of 2000.
Unfortunately, no burial or plot records exist, so a full restoration of the cemetery is not possible. It is hoped that the remaining monuments can be recovered and protected for the future, and that the grounds can be maintained in a way that allows current and future visitors to enjoy this spot on the prairie, and to feel closer to their ancestors.
