The Illinois Genealogical Society (ISGS) Honors and Awards committee will be using the following criteria for selecting individuals or societies to be honored by the ISGS Governing Board for the many hours and talents the nominees have expended to further genealogy in Illinois. All recipients will be notified that they will be receiving an award on a specific day and place at an ISGS conference. It is their responsibility to attend the conference to receive the award or to ask another individual specifically to receive the award in their absence.
When proposing an individual or a society for consideration, one must provide the following information:
The category
The name, address, telephone &
email (if possible) for the nominator and nominee
The reason(s) that the nominee
should be considered for the award
Documentation, when possible, which
supports the reasons for the nomination
Please make only one nomination per category per society. Forms are available from the ISGS Office or on the ISGS website. YOU CAN FIND THE ONLINE FORMS BY CLICKING ON THE LINKS BELOW (click on the name of the award for the appropriate form).
The Community Service award may be given to an individual, company, or institution for service or contributions to genealogy. Local societies are asked to make nominations.
This award may be given for the promotion of genealogy in general. Nominations may be made by local societies or the Honors and Awards Committee.
Nominees should be ISGS members who have had a major influence on the organization. Honorary Life Membership will be granted to the chosen nominee.
Students are eligible for this award for a genealogical project. Nominations may be made on the suggestion of a teacher, advisor, or local society. Please help ISGS find some deserving young people.
A national figure may be honored for exceptional contributions or service to genealogy.
The writer who wrote the best article on genealogy for the ISGS Quarterly during the past year is eligible for this award. Nominations will be made by the Editorial Board of the ISGS Quarterly to the Honors and Awards Committee.
