The genealogical collection of THE ILLINOIS STATE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY is located in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.

The library has family genealogies and histories, censuses, publications of patriotic and veterans' organizations, journals, quarterlies (including a complete run of the ISGS Quarterly), and newsletters of many local, state, and national genealogical and historical societies and other organizations. The Library has genealogical research handbooks, Illinois and national DAR lineage books, and a number of privately printed lists and indexes of cemetery inscriptions, birth, death, probate, land, marriage, and other miscellaneous records. The manuscript section contains letters, diaries, account books, fraternal records, and unpublished genealogies. The Library also has pictures of Illinois sites and individuals, including a large number of Civil War soldiers. The Library also has a large collection of newspapers and a major collection of maps.

Publications which are donated to ISGS by publishers and authors for review in the Illinois State Genealogical Society Quarterly are placed in, and become the property of, the Illinois State Historical Library.
