I am researching my wife's SCHREIBER line, and I'm trying to find the father of John Frederick SCHREIBER. John was born in Baden, Germany in 1832 and moved to Stephenson County, IL with his parents and family in 1847. I found a Jacob SCHRIBER and family in Ridott, Stephenson County, IL in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. The 1850 census lists a son Frederic, age 18. I think this Frederic is John Frederick SCHREIBER, but I haven't been able to prove it. The age fits. I haven't been able to trace the Jacob SCHRIBER family after 1860. John Frederick SCHREIBER was a minister of the Evangelical Association from Illinois, and moved to Kansas as a minister of the Kansas Conference. John's obituary in Kansas in 1896 mentioned that he was survived by several brothers and sisters, but it didn't mention names. The children of Jacob SCHRIBER were: Jacob, Frederic, Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth, Christina, Edward, Simon, and Lizzy. The children of John F. SCHREIBER were: Sarah, Gideon Lincoln, Emma, Charley, Rosetta, Perseda, and Edwin. I would appreciate any help, and I'm glad to exchange information. Dennis Stephens

Horace and Persis (ALLEN) POST moved from Huron Co, OH to Stephenson Co, IL by August, 1845 when they purchased Federal land in section 8, township 26N. In 1850 they were living in Loran Twp, and by 1860 had moved to Florence Twp. with their 3 children, Caroline (17), Selinda (10) and Franklin (8). Sometime between 1860 and 1878, Persis remarried to a man named HOGAN. Perhaps this is actually the David HOGINS, who would have been a neighbor in Loran Twp. Persis died between the time her father's will was written in March, 1878 and January, 1879 when a codicil was added to his will. I wish to confirm Persis Post's second marriage, and find her exact death date and burial information. Any clues appreciated.

I am search information on a surname of FRIEBEN. In particular an "Otto Augustus FRIEBEN". I have traced him from Benton County Missouri back to Stephenson County IL through his Civil War records. He is listed in the Adjutant General's Report, in Company D, 37 Infantry and in it lists his residence as Lena, IL. Aug. 1861. At this point I have no idea if his family (parents) lived in this county. Was wondering if there is anyway I can query the land records from approximately 1845 through 1861 to see if any FRIEBEN purchased land in that area. Would appreciate any help or ideas you can give.

Hello!

I am looking for information on ancestor DeWitt HOLTSAPPLE who lived near Dakota. He moved to Wisconsin in the 1870's from Perry County, Pennsylvania. I have corresponded with a relative in Monroe, WI who says a friend found Dewitt's gravestone in an unnamed cemetary near Dakota but I have no further information than that.

I'm interested in the dates, any inscription, and any other Holtsapple stones. I have an obituary from the Freeport Weekly Journal of April 20, 1904 which says services were held at 'the M.E. church' if that is of any assistance. I would greatly appreciate any information or leads you might have. The name may be spelled several ways. The obituary says 'HOLSAPPLE' but I know his parents spelled it 'HOLTSAPPLE'.

Thanks!

I am trying to find a descendant or descendants of George W. EATON and Ann Gertrude SAMPLE Eaton. They left the State College (Centre Co.) area of PA some time after 1880. They moved to Freeport. They had a least one daughter who returned to PA on visits up until WWII. George had been involved in sawmills while in PA.

I am the great-granddaughter of George's older brother, John. I have inherited many unidentified photos and tintypes dating back to the 1860's. There are very few living relatives that can help in this indentification process. I am hoping that a lost family connection may be the key.

If any one can help, I would very grateful. My E-Mail is chornibroo@aol.com.

Thank you,

Carla S. Eaton Hornibrook

I've been searching and searching for some sort of history to my family name for years now. The surname is MACHAMER. I've traced it back from an old birth certificate to Stephenson County. The year is around 1864. The names that pop up are Aaron, Robert and Daniel MACHAMER. These people would be my father's grandfather and/or great grandfather. if you have any information or suggestions on where to go from here, I'd appreciate it.

I've looked and found land sales records and Civil War enlistment but would just like to find some census information that lists residency, wife, children etc. This way I can then see if these are the people I've needed to track down or if I should move on to another state.

Posted by Cormac      <lambay@clubi.ie> on Mon, 07 Dec 1998

Surnames: BOYLAN

One of my grtgrdmothers was Margaret BOYLAN, only dau of Robert John
BOYLAN, Asst Engineer of the Wabash Valley R R in 1855. She was born in USA
abt 1850, per an Irish Census record. The place is hard to decipher, but we
have read it as 'Kinteroly', but possibly 'Kenteroly'. I have since learned
there are towns, Kent & Eleroy, close to each other in Stephenson County.
Could it be that there is/was a custom of joining their names for some
administrative purposes? I would like to pursue the chance of her birth
having been recorded in that area.

FRIEBEN

Posted by Jo Genser      <djgenser@swbell.net> on Mon, 6 Apr 1998

Surnames:

I am search information on a surname of FRIEBEN. In particular an "Otto
Augustus FRIEBEN". I have traced him from Benton County
Missouri back to Stephenson County IL through his Civil War records. He is listed in the Adjutant General's Report, in Company D, 37 Infantry and in it lists his residence as Lena, IL. Aug. 1861. At this point I have no idea if his family (parents) lived in this county. Was wondering if there is anyway I can query the land records from approximately 1845 through 1861 to see if
any FRIEBEN purchased land in that area. Would appreciate any help or ideas you can give.
