“As silent as these cemeteries are
today, there is still a story to be told about them and the people who are
buried in their confining spaces. These people were the pioneers of
Vermilion County and without their hard work and determination there would
not be the country as we know it today” Joe Tharp Commercial-News 1957 Traveling around
Vermilion County, you have likely come across a country cemetery tucked
away along the side of the road. Some have been well taken care of and show
evidence of frequent visitors, while others lie neglected, victims of time,
elements, and apathy. This site is dedicated to advocacy on behalf of these
final resting places, as well as documenting the cemeteries of Vermilion
County and surrounding areas. These are historic sites and should be
honored as such. If you have
photos, transcriptions, or other information to share, please e-mail
us! We will be honored to share your submission. We will be
updating the site frequently, so please check back often!
