The Regional History Center at Northern Illinois University contains three different collections...

• • Local Government Records - Illinois Regional Archives Depository - IRAD system

  • University Archives
• You should consider the IRAD collection and the Regional Collection in your genealogical research.
• The center's collections are open to the public.
• Computer generated finding aids are available for all collections.
• Reference staff are available to aid researchers.
• Staff will do research for you and welcomes mail and telephone requests. Click here to go to IRAD page and read RESEARCH POLICY/ Requesting a Search. (Be sure to include a self-addresses stamped envelope.)
• All materials must be used in the center's reading room, the collections do not circulate.
• Photocopy services, photographic reproduction services, microform readers and tape recorders are available.

Regional Collections

Holdings in this collection include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the Northern Illinois region (excluding Chicago/Cook County.)

Examples of regional collections include: the papers of the Elwood family; almost complete runs of the Daily Chronicle (DeKalb); and 1857-1927 run of The True Republican (Sycamore); the 1844-1958 records of the Mayfield Township Burial Association (DeKalb County); the records of the White Rock Bethel Methodist Charge (Ogle County); the 1911-1957 records (marriage, burials, baptisms, etc.) of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, DeKalb are available.
