Pleasant Valley Cemetery Listed below is the transcription of the tombstones in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Madison Township, Allen County, Indiana. The cemetery is located on the north side of Adair Road, between Emenhiser and Houck Roads. This cemetery is abandoned. This cemetery was a disgrace. There is nothing left of the original cemetery. The stones had been removed and placed in piles of other items removed from the cemetery and/or farm field. We attempted to read the cemetery in the spring but all of the overgrowth covered most of the area. You could see the foundations for the stones but the stones were no longer there. Only one stone was found. It is noted below as a “stone broken”. An attempt to read this cemetery will be made again in the winter when all of the growth has died. This cemetery was read in 1932 by the DAR. In the 1980’s it was once again read by ACGSI. At that time they only found one stone. The wording in their reading for that stone was “twas the only stone found in the trash pile”. All of the following information is from the 1932 DAR reading except for one stone found in the 1980’s by the ACGSI. The cemetery was photographed and transcribed in May of 2009. All stones in place at that time were included. If there is a photo of the tombstone, there will be a link after the name.
In some instances the stones were very worn and hard to read. The DAR did a reading in 1932 and the Allen County Genealogical Society did a reading in the 1980’s. The information from these readings was used if the stones were unreadable or if the stones were not found. There is no other information on any person other than what is listed.
