Know all men by these presends that I , Thomas Uriah HAND of Miami County , Indiana , of sound mind and memory, though in feeble health recognizing the uncertainty of life and being desirous while alive of disposing of such worldly goods as it has pleased GOD to be investive with, do make and publish this , my last will and testament .
ITEM 1st.
I desire my body to be taken to EAGLE CREEK CHURCH YARD in Boone County , state of Indiana and be there buried by the side my former wife Seliah (Cely) Shelburne HAND and my grave to be marked by suitable marble slab properly inscribed .
ITEM 2nd
I direct that my funeral expenses , expenses of my last sickness and just debts to be paid by my executors there after ensued out of the first monies which may to the hands after the payment by them of the bequest made to my present wife Elizabeth (McManis) HAND .
ITEM 3rd
I will and bequest to my wife Elizabeth (McManis) HAND , all the household furniture which I maybe the owner of and I further Bequest to her the sum of Three hundred dollars ( $ 300.00) to be paid to her by my executors out of the first monies when they receive from my estate .
ITEM 4th
Where as I have already given to each one of my children , except my son URIAH HAND , the sum of three hundred & seventy five dollars each and said URIAH HAND and his first wife FANNY HAND being both dead leaving three children , these surviving to will SUSAN , CELIA and HARVEY HAND , children of my said son URIAH HAND and his wife FANNY the sum of three hundred &seventy five dollars to be equally divided amongst three share and share alike , SUSAN F. , CELIA ANN and &HARVEY M. HAND .
ITEM 5th
Whereas I have here afore given my son JOHN HAND more than either one of my children and in my judgment he has received a full share of my estate and whereas said JOHN HAND did leaving his wife NANCY HAND and the three children whose names I do not know therefore in order to show my love and affection for my said grand children give and devise to my said grand children the children of my said son JOHN HAND deceased and his wife NANCY M.(SPICKLEMIRE) HAND the sum of fifty dollars to be paid to their wage accounts share and share alike when the youngest of them shall become twenty-one years

of age and impose either of them should die before reaching the age of twenty one years of old , said account to be given to and divided equally amongst the survivor and survivor , provided that if neither one of them should live to the age of twenty-one years , said account of fifty dollars shall revert to my estate to be equally divided amongst my children named in ITEM 6th of this will , and I direct that said amount of fifty dollars shall remain in the hand of my executor until said youngest child becomes twenty-one years of age .
ITEM 6th
I will and bequeath the proceeds of the remainder of my estate both real and personal to my children , MARY 9HAND)DODSON wife of ROBERT DODSON , THOMAS S. HAND , SARAH L.(HAND) SHULL wife of WILLIAM H. SHULL , DAVID HAND , JONAH HAND , HEZEKIAH HAND , SUSAN(HAND) DODSON wife of JOHN DODSON , and my grand children SUSAN , SELIA , and HARVEY HAND children of URIAH &FANNY HAND deceased , to be equally divided between them, share and share alike , with the exception that the said SUSAN , SELIA & HARVEY HAND shall only take and receive the share which their deceased father , URIAH HAND would have entitled to if alive .
ITEM 7th
I do here by nominate and appoint ROBERT DODSON , husband of my daughter MARY DODSON, THOMAS S. HAND , and DAVID HAND my executor to carry out the provisions of this will requiring of them no bounds whatever nor accountability to any court . I do here by authorize and empower them to compromise and adjust called by said or otherwise as they may deem best way and all debts due me . It being my will that all my REAL ESTATE be sold by my said executors without an order from any court . I do hereby authorize direct and fully empower my said executors to sell any and all my real estate as soon after my death as the same all be sold to advantage for money or upon such terms affords as they may deem best
and to execute purchase deeds of general warrantee in fee simple , therefore I direct my executors to first pay the legacy bequeathed to my wife ELIZABETH HAND , second to pay my funeral expenses, expenses of my last sickness & just debts, third to pay the specific legacies bequeathed in ITEM 4th of this will, further to retain the legacy specified in ITEM 5th of this will and lastly to distribute the remainder of the proceeds of my estate both real and personal in the manor directed in ITEM 6th of this will .

I do here by revoke all other wills by me made in witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal in the presence of the attesting witness , JOHN MITCHELL & DEBORAH SCOTT , of this 5th day of FEBRUARY 1869;signed sealed and acknowledged by THOMAS URIAH HAND in our presence his last will and testament signed by us in his presence and in the presence of each other this 5th day of FEBRUARY, 1869,

OBITUARY of Martin Mansfield HAND

Martin Mansfield HAND, was one of the best known citizens of this part of Indiana, died at his home, just north of Castleton, Indiana, on 91st and Hauge Road, about 11 o'clock on Thursday morning. He was born 19 August 1860. Died 2 May 1929. He had not been in good health for sometime, and for the past two weeks was in a serious condition. However his death was unexpected, heart trouble being the immediate cause of death.

Mr . Hand would have been 69 years old in next August ,19th , and was until about eight years ago a resident of the community of Sheridan , Indiana . He was a farmer and was active in many lines of community interests . At one time he was the Democrate canidate for trustee of Adams Township in Hamilton County, Indiana, in 1912, when Theodore Pettijohn was elected. He served as elder in the Christian Church at Sheridan for many years and often filled the pulpit when there was need of such assistance on his part. He was also a charter member of the Christian Church of Sheridan. He was a member of the Christian Church at Noblesville, Indiana at the time of his death.

Mr. Hand leaves the widow but no children. Mrs. Charles E. Stevens, and Everest Dixon Hand, of this city and Flora Cobb of Sheridan, and Manora E. Hand of Castleton, are nieces and nephews of Mr. Hand and also nieces and nephews in southern Texas.

His burial will take place at Crownview Cemetery 2 May 1929, following church services at the Sheridan Christian Church, Sheridan, Indiana; Noblesville Ledger, Noblesville, Indiana
