Little Ralph KURTZ, the eight year old son of Mr. And
Mrs. Charles KURTZ, of New Winchester, and grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. Thompson HENRY, of Jamestown, who swallowed
a short lead pencil while at school about two months ago,
took a coughing spell Monday and the pencil was dislodged.
For two or three weeks after the child swallowed the pencil
little hope was enertained[sic] for his recovery. He was in
a hospital at Indianapolis for a few weeks, where an
operation was performed on him, but which proved to be
unsuccessful, as the pencil could not be located with the
X-rays. He has been at home for the past month and aside
from coughing spells has been in very good health. The
pencil was about an inch and a quarter long and was in the
lungs or trachea all the time.
