DAVIS, JOHN L., Auburn, merchant and banker; a son of William Davis and Debra W.
Dutcher. He was united in marriage, Dec. 1, 1856, with Louisa Hanenstine, of Erie
County, N. Y., and came to this county Jan. 8, 1863. They have had four children:
Albert L. (deceased), Frederic C., Claude (deceased), and Edna E. Mr. Davis
began business here in 1865, first purchasing the Pioneer Hardware Store of J. D.
Davis, already established. The was accomplished with a capital of $2,000. He has
been very successful in business, and is a leading, public spirited citizen.
