The Arsenal, August 2006. Ohio Valley Chapter INSSAR Newsletter
 Moving    the    Seat    of    Government

The Ohio Valley Chapter Color Guard helped the town of Newburgh, Indiana move its seat of government July 19th. The Color Guard properly moved the Town Council's three flags from their old Town Hall location of 40 years to their new location in the Old Library Building.

The Council Meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance at the Old Town Hall. Then the move to their new location started off with bagpipe player, Mary Fanning, leading the procession, followed by the Color Guard consisting of John West, Ken Gilkey, J.D. Strouth, and Chris Myers. Marching with us and dressed in colonial period clothing were Peggy Gilkey,Becky West, and Ruth Hall. The members of the Newburgh Town Council came next with their chairs, literally "moving the seat of government."

J. D. Strouth carried the United Kingdom's Union Flag in honor of the parish of Newburgh, Lancashire, England, the sister city of Newburgh, Indiana. Newburgh Parish Council Chairman Reginald Porter and his wife, Shirley, came from England to witness this event.
