Two Grave Marking Dedications

Members of the Ohio Valley Chapter participated with the Indiana State Society SAR Color Guard in two grave dedications this past June. On June 9th, Ed Hitchcock, Chris Myers, Ken Gilkey, and Peggy Gilkey travelled to Mt. Eden Cemetery near Patoka Lake in Crawford County, Indiana for the dedication of a grave marker for John Ruth, a Private in Major Thomas Quirk’s Company of George Rogers Clark’s Illinois Regiment. below were taken at the John Harbison Grave Marker Dedication in Lanesville, Harrison County, Indiana on June 23rd. Major Harbison gave his service in the 5th Battalion of the Philadelphia Militia, commanded by Colonel John Shee. He was also "on the payroll of the Lincoln County, Kentucky Militia under Captain Sam Scott, for actual service on the frontier of said county by order of Colonel Benjamin Logan in 1782." Compatriot William Cook, a descendant of Major Harbison, was joined by Chris Myers, Ken Gilkey, John West and Ed Hitchcock for the ceremony.

Meeting Notice

The next meeting will be held at 10 AM on August 25, 2007 in the Bayard Room, 2nd Floor of Willard Library, Evansville, IN. The program will be "Why-DNA?" presented by Compatriot John G. West.
