| Ohio Valley Chapter to Honor Kathryn Martin |
|
The Ohio Valley Chapter has selected Kathryn Martin as the recipient of the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal. The award will be given at the Chapter's Awards Banquet on March 1, 2008
On November 6, 2005, Kathryn lost three family members, including her two-year-old son, C.J., during a nighttime tornado that struck the Eastbrook Mobile Home Park where she lived in Evansville, Indiana.
Kathryn is the founder of CJ's Bus. CJ's Bus is a rapid-response self-contained mobile recreation unit which will be deployed to disaster sites nationwide in order to keep children distracted and entertained in a safe group environment in the immediate aftermath phase of natural or man-made disasters.
Kathryn also initiated the process to pass C.J.'s Law, mandating that every mobile home manufactured in the state of Indiana be equipped with a NOAA weather radio, which would alert residents to impending severe weather threats. Kathryn also spearheaded the building of a memorial park and playground at Eastbrook Mobile Home Park where she once lived and where her family members died.
