AUBURN - E. Vern Bachtel, 95, died
Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn.
Mr. Bachtel was a farmer and managed the Sinclair gas
station in Waterloo from 1928 to 1953. He was a dairy supervisor for 27 years
for the DeKalb County Dairy Improvement Association. He was a former Fairfield
Township trustee and a former Waterloo Lions Club member. He formerly lived
at Pretty Lake.
He was born Feb. 24, 1904, in DeKalb County to William
and Mary (Walker) Bachtel. They preceded him in death.
He married Velta (Hootman) Bachtel on Feb. 12, 1932,
in Hicksville, Ohio, and she died Nov. 1, 1990.
Surviving him are four nephews, Robert Hootman of Kendallville,
Vern Hootman of Edgerton, Ohio, Tom Darr of Kohler, Wis., and Ted Bachtel
of El Paso, Texas; three nieces, Marsha Ray of Angola, Linda Gehl of Auburn
and Carol Moore of Defiance, Ohio.
One brother, Harry, preceded him in death.
Services will be held Tuesday at noon in Feller Funeral
Home, Waterloo, with calling after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Waterloo Cemetery.
Memorials are to the Cedar Lake Church of Christ.
