MRS MARY CORNELL, PIONEER OF DEKALB COUNTY IS DEAD
Mrs. Mary A. Cornell, a resident of DeKalb county for
over sixty years, mother of Mrs. T. F. Elson and Wesley Cornell, living south
of Auburn, died at the home of Mrs. Elson Friday noon. She was past
eighty-five years of age and has made her home with her daughter for the last
two years. She has been in poor health all winter, but was improving
when she took the grip. She was troubled with her heart and this, together
with the grip, caused her death.
She was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Hawver and
was born in Frederick county, Maryland. When twenty-one yeras old she
was married to Samuel Cornell. Shortly after their marriage they came
to Indiana, settling in DeKalb county on the farm five miles south of Auburn,
now occupied by their son, Wesley.
Mr. Cornell passed away about fourteen years ago.
After his death Mrs. Cornell moved to Auburn, where she resided until the
beginning of January, 1914, when she went to the home of Mrs. Elson.
Mrs. Cornell is survived by three brothers, Jacob, Henry
and Hezakiah, all residing in Tippecane, Ohio. She also leaves twelve
grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. She was a member of
St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
The funeral of Mrs. Cornell was held at Cedar Chapel
Monday morning and interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
