Herman DePew

Garrett—Herman DePew, 87, formerly of 706 S. Guilford
St., Garrett, died Saturday at 9:25 p.m. in Sacred Heart Home, Avilla, where
he had lived since Sept. 1969.
Mr. DePew was a salesman for W.T. Raleigh Co., retiring
in 1958 after 40 years service. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic
church, Garrett, and the church’s Holy Name Society.
He was born in DeKalb County Sept. 8, 1893 to the
late John and Rebecca (DeLong) DePew. On Sept. 13, 1912, he married Helen
M. Carteaux in Albion. She preceded him in death in April 1968.
Surviving are one son, Paul DePew, Gulfport, Miss;
seven daughters, Mrs. Harold (Connie) Engler, Mrs. Marge Johnson, Mrs. Joe
(Dori) Mueller, Mrs. Harris (Ann) Hoeffel and Mrs. Keith (Josie) Flesch,
all of Garrett; Mrs. Hermine Meyer, Avilla; and Mrs. Alphonsus (Guinevere)
Meyer, Columbia City; 31 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
One son, three brothers and two sisters preceded
him in death.
His funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church. Rev. Adam Schmitt will officiate, Burial will be in St.
Mary’s Cemetery, Avilla.
Friends may call at McKee-Mills Funeral Home after
2 p.m. today, A rosary service will be held in the funeral home at 7:45 tonight.
Memorials to Sacred Heart Home or St. Joseph’s School are preferred.
