Funeral services for Loren DePew will be at the
Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Mr. DePew died of an apparent heart attack Tuesday
as he tried to escape a burning barn at his home at Route 1, Wolcottville.
Mr. DePew apparently was filling a lawn mower with
gasoline when the gas fumes ignited. The fire set his clothes on fire,
and when he was running from the barn he suffered the heart attack.
He was born in Altona May 18, 1918, the son of Clarence
and Martha Ann (Crummey) DePew. He married Mae I. Longyear MAY 29,
1942 in Goshen. She survives.
He moved from Kendallville to Route 1, Wolcottville
in 1969 and was a retired farmer.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Robert DePew of
Kendallville and Richard DePew of Wolcottville: two sisters, Nellie Weidler
of Sturgis, Mich. And Grace Schworm of Howe; a brother, Earl DePew of Garrett;
and six grandchildren.
One brother and four sisters preceded him in death.
Visitation at the funeral home is from 2-5 and 7-9
p.m. today. Burial will be in Christian Union cemetery. The family
has requested preferred memorials to the heart fund.
