George Hanes, 83, 1305 Pearl St. Auburn,
died Thursday at 5 p.m. in Garrett Community Hospital after a year’s illness.
He was a lifelong Auburn resident.
Mr. Hanes retired in 1968 from the Auburn City Street
Department after 21 years of service. He had been a merchant policeman in
Auburn prior to that. He was born on August 25, 1894 to Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence
(Della) Hanes (McClellan)
He married Gladys Irene Berry, who survives him, on Oct 6, 1915 in Hillsdale,
Mich. He is also survived by a son, Glenn Hanes, Auburn, and daughters, Nila
Hanes and Dorothy Frazee, Auburn. Three grandsons and three great grandsons
survive. A son preceded him in death.
His funeral will be at Feller-Graffis Funeral Home in
Waterloo on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Clarence Bangs and the Rev. Carroll
McNutt of the First Christian Church in Auburn will officiate. Burial will
be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday.
