STROKE IS FATAL TO AN AGED RESIDENT
Lawrence Hanes, Father of George Hanes,
Merchant Police Officer in Auburn, Dies at Convalescent Home.
Lawrence Hanes, 83, a resident of the Jackson Center community, died at 9
a.m. Wednesday at the Williams Convalescent home in Butler.
His death was attributed to a stroke following an illness
of a year. He had been a resident of the convalescent home since last August.
A native of Steuben County, he was born in 1865. Most
of his life, he resided in DeKalb County. He was a retired farmer and previous
to his entrance into the home at Butler, lived on Rt 2, Auburn four miles
from the city.
In 1894 he married the former Della McClellan in Auburn.
She survives with a son, George Hanes, merchant police officer of the city,
who resides on Rt#2 Auburn, and one great grandson, Howard Hanes.
He was a member of the Baptist church at Pleasant Lake,
His body was taken to the Dilgard & Cline Funeral Home in Auburn and
will remain until funeral services are conducted at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev.
Joseph Ferguson of near Auburn will officiate with burial in Roselawn cemetery.
