HARWOOD
Thomas Harwood was born in Vermont
February 28, 1841. He moved to DeKalb Co., Ind., in the month of March
1857. Departed this life December 10, 1920 age 79 years 9 months and 16
days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Julia Smurr June 6, 1866, to this
union 6 children were born 4 boys and two girls.
One son preceeded him in death several years ago. Albert of Altona,
Ind., George of Auburn and Cecil Harwood of Butler and two daughters
Isabelle Pifer of Butler and Ina Treman who lives near Butler and the
mother survive to mourn the loss caused by death. Beside these he also
leaves two brothers Henry Harwood of Olivet Mich., and Emmet Harwood of
Masulia, Mont. Also four grandchildren and many other relatives and
friends.
He enlisted in Co. B 53 Ind., Vol 2 Brigade, 2 Div.and after serving
his country during the closing day of the war was mustered out of
service at Indianapolis, Ind., July 6, 1856.(this should have read
1865) He was a member of the Meade post 44 at Butler, Ind. at the time
of his death.
He was a prosperous farmer and a good citizen, a kind father and
affectionate husband. Although advanced in years his death came as a
sudden shock.
Services were held in the U.B. church in Butler, Sunday afternoon at
1:30. Interment at the Butler cenetary. Rev. B. E. Chamber
officiating.
