PIONEER RESIDENT DIES AT AGE OF 91
Pneumonia Fatal to Mrs. Rosann Hilkey, who Passed
Away at Home of Mrs. Faye Miller in Auburn Thursday.
One of the oldest residents of Auburn, Mrs. Rosann
Hilkey, 91, passed away at 5 o’clock Thursday evening at the home of Mrs.
Faye Miller, 112 West Third Street, Auburn. Pneumonia was the immediate
cause of death.
Mrs. Hilkey, had been in good health and was able
to get around until the week before Christmas when she became ill with influenza
and pneumonia developed. She had been making her home with a son-in-law,
Mel Herrick of waterloo, and she was brought to the Miller home in Auburn
on Wednesday of this week in the Dilgard ambulance.
She was born in Jackson township and had lived in
DeKalb county all of her life. She had resided in Auburn about nine
years. She was married in 1872 to Benjamin Hilkey, who died in 1919.
Survivors include three children, Mrs. Rue Murray
of Orlando, Fla., formerly of near Auburn, Mrs. Roy Prosser of east of Auburn
and Curt Hilkey of Metuchen, N. J.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Methodist church in Auburn.
The body will remain at Dilgard’s funeral home until
after funeral services to be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
Rev. H. A. P. Homer, pastor of the Auburn Methodist Church, will officiate
and burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
