Died, at his residence in Richland twp.,
Mon. morning, Dec. 15th, James McCague, Sen., aged 84 years and 2 months,
after a long illness, and being blind 9 years. His was a rare life
of humble, Christian faith that never wavered. He leaves a companion
who is 6 months older, with whom he had lived 61 years. Of their marriage
they had 8 children, 5 surviving. There are 34 grand-children and 49
great-grand-children living now I believe. Their profession of faith
made in their youth was in the Union Seceder branch of Presbyterianism, in
Pennsylvania and Ohio. He came to Dekalb Co. in 1848, and remained
in the neighborhood ever since.
