HERMINE MEYER
GARRETT—Hermine F. Meyer, 86, died Wednesday, Feb 6, 2002, in Provena
Sacred Heart Home, Avilla
She was co-owner of Meyer Farm Equipment in Avilla
from 1939-1986, and worked with her husband before that in Pierce-Arrow automobile
sales and service in Avilla.
She had lived in Avilla since 1922, and moved to
Garrett in 1988. She was a member of St. Mary’s Rosary Society in Avilla,
the Daughters of Isabelle, the RSVP of Auburn, Harvest House, the American
Legion Post 240 Ladies Auxiliary. She had also been a Girl Scout leader.
She was born Dec. 15, 1915, in Elkhart to Herman
and Helen (Carteaux) DePew. On June 16, 1936, in St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Avilla she married Robert J. Meyer, and he preceded her in death
in January, 1977. A son, Donald, died in 1962 and two brothers, Donald
and Paul DePew, and a sister, Gwenivere Meyer, are also deceased.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara
and Gerald Thomas of Monroe, Mich,; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and
Beverly Meyer of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and
five sisters, Marjorie John son, Dolores Mueller and Anna Hoeffel of Garrett,
Connie Englert of Auburn and Josie Flesch of Ossian.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a. m. at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Avilla, with Father Daniel Durkin officiating.
Calling will be today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Brazzell Funeral Home in Avilla,
with a rosary service at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in
Avilla.
Memorials are to the church or St. Mary’s Catholic
School.
