James Richey was born in Dublin, Ireland, Aug. 2, 1797,
and died Dec. 22, 1890, aged 93 years, 4 month and 22 days.
The deceased was a pioneer of DeKalb County, having
settled at an early day on what is now known as the David Oberlin farm.
He moved west in 1863 and at the time of his death he made his home with
his daughter, Mrs. Emma Hardie, at Dedham, Carroll Co. Iowa. No doubt
many of his old neighbors had lost track of him, but he will be remembered
as having occasionally preached in the Taylor’s Corners school house and
was a firm believer in the doctrines of, and died in full possession of the
faith as taught by the M.E. church.
