OLDEST COUNTY SETTLER DIES

Edward L. Runion, 100 years old in January, died of complication June 2 at 7:30 a.m. at the Garrett Community hospital. He had been a resident of Altona since 1897.

He had won the “oldest male settler award” every year since 1961 at the DeKalb Co. Free Fall Fair. He was a retired B & O railroad engineer. His wife, Susanna Bear, died in 1927 and he had lived alone and did his own cooking.

He is survived by three sons, a brother, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Service were conducted in Garrett.
