Jesse Saurbeck Sr. Following an illness
of 10 years, Jesse G. Saurbeck Sr., 86, of 428 North Myers St., Bryan, died
early Monday in Cameron Community Hospital, where he was admitted Friday.
Until retiring in 1955, Mr. Saurbeck had been employed as a fireman with
Pet Milk Co. He was born Nov. 12, 1889 (?) in Hillsdale Co., Mich., the son
of John and Clara Adell (Wheeler) Saurbeck. On Sept. 25, 1916 he married
Gertie Dennis, who preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1960. His membership was
with the Father of Sons of VFW. Surviving are three sons, Donald Saurbeck,
Auburn, Ind., Jesse Saurbeck Jr., Delta, and Robert Saurbeck, Waterloo, Ind.;
four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Rashley, Delata, Mrs. Donna Lumm, Mrs. Betty
Echler, and Miss Sharon Saurbeck, all of Bryan; a sister, Mrs. Rena Snow,
Camden, Mich.; 26 grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and 31 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death in addition to his wife, Gertie, were three daughters,
Mrs. Geraldine Sprow, Mrs. Louise Price, and Mrs. Evelyn Worthington, two
brothers and one sister. Services will be conudcted at 2 p.m. Wednesday from
the Jack F. Watts Funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Wayne Goldsmith, pastor
of the New Haven (Ind.) Mennonite Church. Interment is to be in Fountain
Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home after
7 p.m. Monday.
