AUBURN MAN DIES AT AGE OF 73 YEARS. William John Thomas Passes Away at Billings
Hospital in Indianapolis - Services in This City on Friday.
William John Thomas, 73 died in the
Billings hospital at Indianapolis at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday night from a complication
of diseases. The elderly man had been making his home with his brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Thomas of 218 East First Street, Auburn,
since returning to this city from California.
Mr. Thomas had been ill since last November and became
seriously sick in April when he was taken to the Indianapolis hospital.
He was born at Corunna on June 21, 1877, to Jacob R.
and Mary E. Thomas, both deceased. The parents had lived their entire lifetimes
in DeKalb County.
The retired auto trimmer was married to Bertha Lahnum
of Auburn at the turn of the century in Auburn. His wife passed away about
three years ago. He was a Spanish war veteran.
Before returning to Auburn to make his home, Mr. Thomas
had spent nearly 30 years in Oakland, Calif.
Other survivors, include another brother, Howard Thomas
of Grand Lodge, Mich.; and two sisters, Mrs. John Bherns of Ashley and Mrs.
Lulu Oberholtzer of San Jose, Calif.
The body was brought to the Dilgard & Cline funeral
home in Auburn.
Funeral rites will be conducted by a Jehovah Witness
speaker in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday and the body will be cremated.
