Silas Ted Walters

    Silas Ted Walters, 90, died Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Betz Nursing Home Auburn.
    Mr. Walters had lived on West Twenty Street in Auburn.  He worked on the Nickel Plate Railroad before retiring in 1968 with 25 years of service.  He also was a former employee of Dana Corp.
    He was a volunteer firefighter with the Auburn Fire Department and served as the department’s chief from 1938 to 1943.
    Mr. Walters was born May 16, 1903, in Auburn, to Lewis and Jenny (McGowan) Walters.  His wife, Mable, preceded him in death in 1983.
    Surviving are four sons, Bill of Auburn, Jack of Napa, Calif., George of California, Md.; and Tom of Englewood, Colo.; seven daughters, Helen Cooper of Lady Lake, Fla., Joan Tutwiler and Pat Leffler, both of Auburn, Donna Tageson and Jane Clifford, both of Fort Wayne, Shirley Ruegsegger of Waterloo, and Mary Gobel of New Haven; 35 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
    A son, Ralph Eugene Walters, preceded him in death.
    Funeral services were conducted today in the Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, with the Rev. Tom Younger of Lakewood Park Baptist Church, Auburn, officiating. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Auburn.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn Chapter of the American Red Cross, the DeKalb County Chapter of the American Heart Association, or Lakewood Park Baptist Church.
