WATERLOO -- Mrs. Wilmetta H. Wells, wife of Waterloo Police Chief Harvey Wells, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday in DeKalb Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient six days. The 52-year-old lifetime DeKalb County resident died of cancer.

She was born April 2, 1918, in Waterloo to Harry and Wilmetta Altenburg Hanes (note: it should read Harry Altenburg and Wilmetta Hanes).

Surviving are the husband, 340 W. Union St., Waterloo, one daughter, Mrs. Roma Jean Kapp, Waterloo; two sons, James A. and Timothy J., both at home; one brother, Theron Hanes, North Manchester; three sisters, Mrs. Mary A. Williamson, 434 W. ninth St. Auburn, Mrs. Celestia Dirrimm (should be Dirrim), Hamilton, and Mrs. Bethel Buss, Waterloo, and three grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Graffis Funeral Home, Waterloo, with the Rev. Vernon Shaw, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church Nappanee, officiating. Burial will be in Waterloo Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
