Pioneer Settlers Application

The DeKalb County Indiana Genealogy Society will present a Pioneer Settlers Certificate to the descendants of DeKalb County. The certificate will be 8.5 high x 11 wide and suitable for framing.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE Applicant must be a direct descendant of a pioneer settler who lived in DeKalb County prior to December 31, 1850. A separate application must be made for each ancestor.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE Print or send for an application. You will need one application for each Pioneer settler. Your application request should be submitted to the DeKalb County Indiana Genealogy Society, Pioneer Committee, P.O. Box 6085, Auburn, IN 46706. Enclose a No. 10 (4.25 x 9.5) SASE.

COMPLETING THE APPLICATION
1. Application to be typed or neatly printed with BLACK ink.
2. A copy of evidence document for each generation. (See acceptable evidence below.)
3. Send documentation with application.
4. Enclose your check for $10 for each certificate application. (check made to the DeKalb County Indiana Genealogy Society or DCIGS)

REQUIREMENT FOR ACCEPTABLE EVIDENCE Xerox copies of documented evidence must accompany the application for each generation. Only one document showing the earliest date of DeKalb County residency is necessary. Additional documentation and information about the original pioneer ancestor. DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL EVIDENCE DOCUMENTS. Your application and verifying evidence WILL NOT be returned.

EVIDENCE MAY BE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
1. Birth: Certificates, Bible Records, Church Records, Cemetery Records (tombstone inscriptions).
2. Marriage: Same as birth.
3. Death: Certificates, Bible Record, Church record, Cemetery records (tombstone inscriptions), dated obituary or newspaper notices.
4. Estate: Probate, Will or Administrative records.
5. Land Records, Tract Plat Records, State Archives, Board of Commissioners, Recorders records.
6. Census: 1840 or 1850 Census Records of DeKalb County.
7. Military Records.
8. County Histories.
Material needs to be organized according to each generation and label each piece of evidence on the back. Example on the pioneer ancestor papers you would put: Name of your pioneer ancestor Generation 1 Submitter: Your name
