Publication Descriptions

 

1855 Atlas of Marion County: This oversize, softbound volume was produced by The Bookmark of Knightstown from a large wall map. A great list of mid-19th century landowners.

 

Parish Registers, Christ Church Cathedral, 1837-1922: An extraction by Jane Eaglesfield Darlington, this softbound, extensive surname-indexed book features baptisms, marriages, burials, and confirmations of this historic church on Monument Circle.

 

1889 Atlas of Marion County: This reprint of the Griffing-Gordon Atlas is an 11”x14” hardbound book that contains all of the genealogical data of the original. Approximately 90 pages showing landowners with full-name index, this resource helps fill the 1890 census gap.

 

Central State Hospital Cemetery Records: This softbound book lists all of the surviving burial records of this state hospital in Marion County, which was closed in the 1990’s; also includes a brief history of the facility.

 

A.C. Howard’s 1857 Indianapolis Directory, Part A: Residents: The society has reproduced the 200+ pages of this rare and valuable pre-Civil War directory, which features an alphabetical listing of residents; softbound, includes a short history of the city.

Lockerbie’s Assessment List for Indianapolis, 1835: This tax list reprint is a mini-census of the town, with lot locations, value amounts, and resident counts, softbound, 30 pp.

 

Student Lists from Warren Township, 1856-1865: This book contains 42 class lists from teacher Thomas J. White.

 

Cemetery Readings of Decatur Township: Compiled in 1998 from society readings in 1996-97, this softbound book and its CD version contain an every-name listing of every cemetery in the township and contains a township-wide alphabetical index.

Pioneer Cemetery CD Array: GSMC has gathered burial lists from dozens of cemeteries and many thousands of burials in Marion County, integrated the readings, and created Adobe Acrobat databases. These are searchable by surname or any other word or partial word. Cemetery Readings of Union Chapel Cemetery: This softbound book compiled by Elizabeth Hague, details a very large cemetery in Washington Township; the volume contains 120 pages; full indexed.

 

Confederate Burials in Crown Hill Cemetery: Many Confederate prisoners died at Camp Morton in Indianapolis; were buried in the city’s Greenlawn Cemetery and later moved to Crown Hill. This softbound booklet includes the names of the 1,616 known burials.

 

Crown Hill National Cemetery: Within Crown Hill Cemetery, the third-largest cemetery in the nation, is a national cemetery, with burials from 1866 to 1969. This softbound booklet gives a brief history plus the recorded burials.

Hutchinson’s 1870 Directory of Indianapolis: Softbound reprint contains approximately 13,000 names from the 200 pages of the alphabetized list of residents in the original book. It lists occupations, identifies widows and African-Americans, and gives addresses.

 

Indianapolis Mortality Records, 1872-1882: This softbound volume by Jane Eaglesfield Darlington, C.G.R.S., contains 15,000 entries in 650 pages.

 

Marion County Birth Records, Jul. 1882-Sep. 1907: Produced in a quality hardbound library binding, this work by Jane Eaglesfield Darlington, C.G.R.S., has a whopping 1,100 pages and a 34,000-name index.

 

Marion County Probate Records, Jan. 1830-Aug.1852: This volume by Jane Eaglesfield Darlington, C.G.R.S., contains the earliest county probate records and is in a quality hardbound library binding; it has 515 pages and a 15,000-name index.
