
Thomas Armstrong was the second son of Jefferson and Angeline. He was born in 1856 in Missouri, and has stated that he was born free. He moved with his family to Westfield Indiana after the Civil War. On January 1, 1885 he married Mollie (Marzilla) Winburn. They had two sons:
Claude b. 1886 d. 1967
Byron K. b. 1892 d. 1980
Both of the sons served in World War I (with their five cousins) as part of the 92nd Division.
Claude who was a veteran of WWI worked as an auto mechanic and died at the age of
65.
Byron Kenneth was a veteran of WWI and graduated from Indiana University in 1913.
At the University, he was one of the founders of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Byron
obtained his Master’s degree from Columbia University and his Doctoral Degree in Philosophy, from the University of Michigan in 1940.
He was the Dean of the School of Education at Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma.
