HENDRICKS COUNTY HOME CEMETERY or POTTER’S FIELD
Center Township, Hendricks County, Indiana
In 1982, a four-lane highway was planned in Hendricks County, Indiana, which
made it necessary to move the cemetery from what had been the Hendricks County
Home. There were no markers on the graves. The State Highway Department
and the Danville Public Library compiled a list of persons buried there.
Information was obtained from records of the County Home and the County
Health Department. Additional information was found in newspaper articles
indexed at the Plainfield Public Library. Some of those buried in this
cemetery were transients and unidentified bodies found in the county. The
bodies were disinterred and moved to the Danville South Cemetery by a special
Highway Department crew in May 1982. A monument was erected and inscribed
with the names of the deceased.
