Directions:
This cemetery is between Shiloh Road and Raceway Road, on the south bank
of the Brown Drain. It would be wise to either use a GPS or be escorted
to the cemetery. The best way to approach the cemetery is from Karen
Drive, which is on the east side of Shiloh Road. Enter the yard of number
10652. From the east yard, enter the woods and follow the south ridge of
the creek east. The cemetery is above a bend in the creek along the
ridge.

Condition:
This cemetery is not fenced, mowed, or maintained. The area is heavily
wooded. The cemetery is almost completely destroyed. Besides the
two monoliths, little else stands. Almost every tablet is lying on
the ground face up, broken in pieces and covered in leaves. Pieces of
tablets are scattered throughout the cemetery, especially clumped near the
two stack stones. Soon the tablets will have sunk and disappeared.
This cemetery was one of two cemeteries associated with the Salem Baptist
Church (Raceway Road and 21st Street). It was mapped and read in 1979 by Ruth
Pritchard, who stated that it had already been vandalized and most stones
were on the ground. She also surmised that many stones were missing
or already underground and that many graves were probably unmarked, due to
it being such an early burial ground.
