Condition:
This cemetery was restored by Jessica Felix and the Mill Creek adult and junior Optimists in the fall of 2008.  This cemetery is still partially fenced with barbed wire and a line of trees defines the rest of the perimeter. The cemetery had not been mowed or maintained for many years. The long-time landowners, Glenn and Joy (Plunkett) Johnston, cleared the brush and dead trees from the cemetery before the project.  The cemetery was then probed and stones not appearing on any prior transcriptions were found. On October 4th, 2008 the Optimists and members of the Johnston family cleaned, repaired and reset the gravestones to their original positions in the cemetery. The result is a beautifully restored pioneer cemetery.

This cemetery began as a burial ground for the children of George W. and Katherine Turner and then later the grandchildren of Paul and Elizabeth Faught, who lived nearby.  The Stephen Gowin family also lived next door. Burials were grouped by family and not order of death.

George W. Turner owned 200 acres of land when he sold it April 1st, 1880 to John F. Underwood.  The legal description was: The E1/2 of the SW1/4 of Sec. 27, the E1/2 of the NW1/4 of Sec. 34, the SW1/4 of the NE1/4 of Sec. 34, all in T16N R2W, with the exception of 36' by 50' on the W side of the E1/2 of the SW1/4 of Sec. 27 (the cemetery). Stephen Gowin owned 90 acres to the west of Turner.  Interestingly, Stephen Gowin died over a month after the Turner property sold, but was still buried in the cemetery.
